Match Report - Boxing Show at Kassam Stadium
by Michael Davis
30 November 2012 - The night began strongly for OUABC with all 4 boys weighing in and passing their medicals with exception of James who despite his youth-like features had forgotten to shave. Tom had struggled to cut before the fight and there was a tense moment in the early evening when he had to go and have a pre-weigh in weigh in with Greg at Iffley.
Harley was up first to show us how it's done in his first bout in the form of 3 rounds of 3 minutes. He put in a strong performance keeping his hands high, making Dave proud (and protecting himself) to win with a unanimous decision.

I was up next, unfortunately I got battered by a big and strong guy from Finchley. It was a scrappy bout where I was out-boxed in the first two rounds but found my mojo in the third, remembering I'd rather just step in and have a war than try this boxing malarkey. I lost on a unanimous decision.

James was up third and put in an excellent performance, boxing well against a flashy boy who kept switch hitting. Although he backed James onto the ropes a couple of times, James didn't panic and counted well throughout. The whole thing was a very respectable performance alas James also lost on a unanimous points decision.

Tom came out to round off the night and put in a captain's innings, winning his bout solidly against a boy of similar record and stature. He spent the fight looking tidy and controlled and out-boxed his opponent from the off. Tom won by unanimous decision.

I would like to thank everyone involved for a brilliant night. It was great to see some of the old boys there and the support shown was exceptional. I hope everyone had fun.
